AAPS PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIES (PT)

Monday, November 12

12:00 pm – 1:15 pm

The FDA Quality by Design initiative requires a different skill set than the traditional industrial and/or physical pharmacy graduate program provides. The need for appropriately trained pharmaceutical technologists in the industry and FDA is growing. However, pharmaceutical technology graduate programs have almost disappeared from pharmaceutical science programs. The Education Committee of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Education (NIPTE) has defined an innovative curriculum in Pharmaceutical Engineering and Science (PES) that combines the essentials of physical/industrial pharmacy with those in engineering to create an educational framework to meet the current and future needs of the industry. The balance between engineering and pharmaceutics is in the new curriculum is a key issue. This session will introduce the core curriculum and programs. The balance between traditional pharmaceutics and engineering will be the focus of an extensive discussion
