  Contract Research Organization Focus Group

Purpose and Description

The Contract Research Organization (CRO) Focus Group grew out of an initial discussion at the AAPS Clinical Pharmacology and Translational Research (CPTR) Section strategic visioning meeting and subsequent communications with a number of Contract Research Organization members of AAPS. From these discussions with leaders in the CRO community, there was a consensus that the CRO membership in AAPS has grown substantially in recent years. AAPS members, who work for CROs, pharma and biotech companies as well as academic institutions, could benefit by organizing the talents and creativity of this focus group.

A large number of AAPS members either work for or are associated with CROs. Since CROs conduct a major portion of the industry-sponsored, pre-clinical CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls), as well as clinical research programs globally, they have their hands on the pulse of the latest trends and developments in the drug research and development arena. For example, since CROs are in the mainstream of clinical research, they can utilize this information to put forth innovative clinical research programming that will benefit the entire organization. AAPS is the logical home for the CRO Focus Group since its members already contribute to the organization by submission of scientific presentations and exhibits, and no other organization is currently meeting their scientific and educational needs. The CRO Focus Group will provide an opportunity for AAPS members to network with their peers and also generate a venue for career development for students and focus group members.

Goals and Objectives

  • Provide a forum for the discussion of issues of interest to CROs, partners, and customers globally
  • Collaborate with our primary section as well as other sections and/or focus groups to develop programming ideas
  • Submit programming for AAPS annual meetings and National Biotechnology Conferences
  • Provide a venue to enhance networking, mentoring and career development opportunities of current and future members
