Explore the pharmaceutical, biological, regulatory, and medical
issues associated with drug development in veterinary medicine.

Facilitate the exchange of information regarding current and future
technologies as they apply to animal use in drug development.

Develop the relationship between Veterinary and Human Health
development by identifying synergistic opportunities for cross learning and providing the forum for discussion.
2008 APT Focus Group Goals
- Submit a proposal for Sunrise Session/Roundtable discussing curriculum for Animal Health in Pharmacy schools.
- Submit at least two proposals for 2009 AAPS annual meeting.
- Collaborate with another focus group or section on at least one proposal for 2009 NBC.
- Ensure APT website is updated.
- Collaborate with our primary sections, other FGs, and other sections to develop programming.
- Establish goals for the Educational Subcommittee.
- Improve communication with the listserv and establish an e-news letter - six month frequency.
- Develop a survey to understand the needs of the membership.
- Establish a social hour at the end of the primary section's meeting.

Carol is a private consultant and serves as a Senior Scientific
Advisor in the Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology Division,
Department of Veterinary Biosciences, College of Veterinary
Medicine at the University of Illinois. She has over 20 years
experience in analytical method development as the former
Director of the Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology and Endocrine
Laboratory at the university. Her specialties include method
development, quality control and quality assurance, HPLC,
immunoassay development, radioisotopes, pharmacokinetic modeling,
and species differences in drug disposition (ADME).
Area of Interest for focus group development:
Promote the exchange of ideas between scientists in the human and
veterinary disciplines to improve our understanding of comparative
biomedical science and species differences in drug disposition
through development of joint workshops and symposia. Development
of educational opportunities and visiting lectureships to targeted
audiences (pharmacy, veterinary, graduate students in the
pharmaceutical and related sciences) to promote awareness of the
challenges facing veterinary pharmaceutical scientists and
scientists interested in comparative biomedical sciences.

Marilyn is a Senior Expert Scientist with the Food and Drug
Administration, Center of Veterinary Medicine. Her specialty is
pharmacokinetics. Area of interest for focus group development:
the development and application of in-vitro methods (dissolution
for oral products, release testing for parenteral products) to
support assessments of product bioavailability in veterinary
species; improved understanding of interspecies differences in
ADME processes and impact drug development and regulation, and the
fostering technology sharing between human and veterinary scientists.
