STUDENT/POST DOC OUTREACH AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE PROCEDURAL GUIDE
- Purpose
- To address issues of concern to graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the pharmaceutical and related sciences.
- To sponsor broad-based industrial/academic programs of interest to graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
- To facilitate interaction between established pharmaceutical scientists and graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows in the pharmaceutical and related sciences.
- To foster a professional commitment to the organization by graduate and undergraduate students and post-doctoral fellows through active participation in AAPS activities.
- To further evolve programs for the continuing educational needs of all AAPS members.
- Committee Composition
- The committee shall consist of at least one member from each AAPS Section, up to two graduate students, and up to two members-at-large. Section representatives shall be appointed by their Section Chair to represent the Section. Graduate students members shall be selected by the committee. Members-at-large may be appointed at the discretion of the Chair. Student members will serve staggered 2-year terms; other members will serve staggered 3-year terms, ideally with one-third of the committee rotating off each year.
- Committee Officers
- The committee shall include three officers: The Chair, the Chair-Designate, and Past Chair. These individuals shall serve one-year terms on a calendar year basis. A new Chair-Designate is selected within the first 3 months of the Chair’s term, in consultation with the President-elect of AAPS. The Chair-Designate assumes the office of Chair at the end of the years as Chair-Designate. The outgoing Chair assumes the office of Past Chair for one year. If the office of Chair becomes vacant, the Chair-Designate shall serve as Chair for the remainder of the term. At the end of that term, the Chair-Designate will continue responsibilities as Chair, and a new Chair-Designate will be selected.
- Duties of Officers

- Represent the committee, as appropriate, to AAPS, the AAPS Executive Council, and organizations and agencies external to AAPS
- Provide direction to the committee
- Coordinate activities of the committee
- Retain memos, minutes, mailers and all pertinent records of the committee
- Develop an agenda and preside at committee meetings
- Duties of the Chair-Designate
- Assist the Chair in conducting committee activities
- Identify new issues of interest to the committee
- Develop an agenda for the upcoming term as Chair
- Record minutes of all committee meetings
- Duties of the Past Chair
- Serve as an advisor to the Chair and Chair-Designate
- Coordinate the high school outreach program held immediately prior to the Annual Meeting
- Participates in the activities of the committee
- Business Meeting
- The annual committee business meeting shall be conducted during the AAPS Annual Meeting. The Chair-Designate shall assume the responsibilities of Chair at the annual committee business meeting. The meeting agenda shall be developed jointly by the Chair and Chair-Designate. The first portion of the meeting, conducted by the Chair, shall summarize the activities of the committee during the past year. The second portion, conducted by the incoming Chair, shall address the development of a committee agenda for the coming year.
- Amendments
- These guidelines may be amended by a majority of the committee members at any committee meeting. Amended guidelines become effective once approved by the AAPS Executive Council. Any proposed guideline change(s) must be submitted to all committee members at least two weeks prior to the meeting.
