Chapter Information
The AAPS-University of Toronto Student Chapter was established in April 2004 and has already become one of AAPS’ largest chapters with over 50 members. The chapter strives to create a unique opportunity for students from all disciplines to interact with the over 12,000 members of AAPS.
One of the primary goals of the chapter is to help students who are interested in pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical sciences find their own niche. The chapter created an Invited Speaker Series to help students strengthen their scientific background and become competitive candidates for jobs. Through the program, several distinguished pharmaceutical scientists will visit each academic year and give seminars. To help students interested in industry achieve their career goals, the chapter has also invited pharmaceutical industry recruiters to present seminars on industrial job profiles and the qualifications required.
The group was also founded to promote pharmaceutical research and development in Canada by exposing members to the multidisciplinary aspects of pharmaceutical science that encompass not only pharmacology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology and chemistry, but also epidemiology, risk assessment and physics.
Additional chapter activities include industry tours, a journal club, and alumni visits. Chapter social activities include new member recruitment fairs, chapter picnics, pizza and movie nights, cocktail parties and coffee hours.
