Chapter Information
The South Dakota State University-AAPS student chapter was established in October 2005 with the primary objective of promoting student participation in AAPS activities at the local, regional and national levels and increasing student awareness of career opportunities in the pharmaceutical sciences with opportunities for professional advancement and leadership development. Currently, the chapter has members from a variety of educational backgrounds, including pharmacy, chemistry, biology and microbiology. The chapter’s current efforts focus on promotion of careers in the pharmaceutical sciences, recruitment of undergraduate students for research experiences, and promoting the research activities being conducted at South Dakota State University.
Planned Activities and Events
2006-2007
Our chapter has several professional projects planned for this academic year. We are again sponsoring refreshments for the department’s seminar series, and we plan on organizing the journal club again next year. We will be hosting a Research Awareness Day on October 18, 2006. This event will be used for promotion of research and recruitment of first and second year professional program students for undergraduate research experiences. Chapter members will be speaking at an APhA-ASP meeting on November 29 to promote AAPS, pharmaceutical sciences research, and undergraduate research opportunities. Our chapter members will be presenting their research findings at the College of Pharmacy Research Poster Session on October 23. AAPS will be helping with the promotion of this event as well as assisting members in developing their posters. The chapter newsletter will be published again in the fall and spring semesters. We will also be hosting social events this year including a welcome event for new graduate students, a chapter Christmas party, spring picnic, and a movie night.
