Chapter Information

The AAPS-Rutgers University Student Chapter was established in January 1996. Since its inception, the chapter has strived to meet the goals outlined by AAPS, initiating, among other things, a series of seminars focusing on "Current Advances and Developments in Pharmaceutical Science". The focus of this seminar is to bring professionals from academia and the many local pharmaceutical companies to the university to talk about their area of expertise and provide chapter members with an understanding of pharmaceutical research. With active participation from all members, the Rutgers chapter has established a very exciting program. The chapter is enthusiastic about continuing its mission to increase student involvement in AAPS activities and further their knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences and related fields.

Proposed Activities and Events

2006-2007

  • In addition to the ongoing seminar series and the outreach program to pharmaceutical companies, our chapter will organize several recruitment events in 2006-2007 academic year. We will promote awareness of our chapter and pharmaceutical science on campus, extend our membership to pharmacy undergraduate students, and encourage the participation of students from the chemistry, material science, and engineering departments who are interested in a future career in pharmaceutical sciences.
  • The pharmacy school at Rutgers University is going to be the host for the Graduate Research Association of Students in Pharmacy (GRASP) annual conference to be held at Rutgers University in June 2007. GRASP is organized entirely by graduate students and serves as a platform for graduate students in the pharmaceutical sciences field across the country to share their research developments ad provides an interchange of scientific knowledge through poster and podium presentations. The AAPS chapter will assist the Graduate Student Association (GSA) at Rutgers in organizing this event. Guest speakers from the industry and academia will speak about their research and current developments in the pharmaceutical sector and provide a great opportunity for mentoring and networking. GRASP is funded primarily by sponsor donations and a nominal registration fee paid by student and faculty attendees. We strongly appeal to the AAPS Chapter committee and to SPOD to help us in making this event a success.
