Chapter Information

The AAPS-University of the Pacific Student Chapter kicked off in October 2004. With a roster of 51 graduate students in the PCSP program (Pharmaceutical and Chemical Sciences program), this large chapter is excited about the opportunities ahead of them. They hope to spread awareness of the countless career and research opportunities available in the pharmaceutical sciences. A major goal of the chapter is to integrate the multidisciplinary nature of the pharmaceutical sciences, bridging the gap between academia and industry. The students also hope to supplement their knowledge of the pharmaceutical sciences by holding seminars, panel discussions, and social and professional meetings.

Proposed Activities and Events

2009-2010

After experiencing several successful events organized by our previous officers last academic year, the new AAPS officers, with advice from our faculty advisor, have planned several activities for the next academic year. These activities include:

Seminar presentations by guest speakers: We are planning to have two speakers one from area of drug delivery and another from molecular biology who would give intellectually stimulating lectures on some recent advances in concepts or techniques in these areas of research.

We also plan to organize a workshop on topics like research proposal writing and patent filing which can be a learning experience for all the graduate students.

A fun trip to a place nearby as decided by the members which will be an opportunity for all old and new graduate students to connect and mingle. After consulting with the student members we shall plan on a trip to either six flags or a nearby beach like Montrey and Napa Valley which is also closeby.

Another trip is planned to a nearby pharmaceutical company in the bay area which can give the students a glimpse of how the industry functions.

We also plan to have a social, with food and drinks, which will give an opportunity to all AAPS members to meet, discuss and exchange ideas and welcome new members into our group.
