Chapter Information
The University of Kentucky AAPS Student chapter's goals are to:
- bring professionals from academia, industry and government regulatory agencies to
the university to share their expert knowledge
- organize pharmaceutical conferences to exchange knowledge and boost scientific cooperation
- provide graduate students with an opportunity to network with others
The University of Kentucky AAPS student chapter has kicked 2009 off to a great start!
The first of the year's Young Scientist Seminar Series was held in February with
faculty members Dr. Paul Bummer and Dr. Joseph Fink discussing ethics in writing
and publishing scientific literature. This was followed by representation at the
University's Engineering Day where several hundred elementary to high school students
and their parents were introduced to the concept of pharmaceutical sciences through
crystallization and tablet formation demonstrations. The chapter also hosted a lunch
with Dr. Lynne Taylor from Purdue University. Students were encouraged by her presentation
on the changing face of industry and how graduate students can successfully adapt
to the new environment. We also hosted a nanotechnology seminar given by Dr. Cao
from Pfizer as part of the AAPS Visiting Scientist program. To help graduate students
find their dream job in this tough economy we organized a second Young Scientist
Seminar lecture on job-searching, resume preparation, and interview practice. We
plan on visiting Elli Lilly in Indianapolis to provide our graduate students with
a platform to network with industrial pharmaceutical scientists and experience life
in the pharmaceutical world.
